These AI updates caught my attention:
EDUCATION & KIDS
Google Gemini for Kids: Google is launching a version of Gemini for children under 13 with safety features, available through Family Link supervised accounts.
US Tech Leaders Push for Mandatory AI/CS Education: Over 250 tech leaders urge US states to mandate AI and computer science in high school to stay competitive with nations like China and UAE to prepare students for AI-driven careers. Research suggests a single CS course can boost early wages by 8%. This aligns with a recent White House task force focused on K-12 AI instruction.
My two cents: mandatory HS courses for graduation should include, CS (computer science), Excel, AI and Finances 101 (home budget, loans, mortgages, taxes, etc.) or our kids will be left behind.
MEDICAL
AI Uncovers Alzheimer's Cause and Potential Treatment: AI research at UC San Diego identified a previously unknown function of a common protein (PHGDH) that contributes to Alzheimer's and discovered an existing compound (NCT-503) that can block this harmful activity, showing promising results in mouse trials as a potential oral treatment.
My two cents: with Google AI that detects lung cancer better than doctors to this latest discovery our future health seems brighter.
QUANTUM LEAP
Google's DolphinGemma AI for Dolphin Communication: Google unveiled, DolphinGemma, an AI model designed to analyze dolphin vocalizations in collaboration with Georgia Tech researchers. They also developed an underwater device for potential real-time interaction. The open-source model aims to help understand dolphin communication patterns aka talking with dolphins!
My two cents: this one is personal for me, as my dad always said that we’d get here with dolphins!
